Job Description
IT Risk and BCM Specialist*

BAWAG Group is the publicly listed holding company of BAWAG, which, with more than 4 million customers, is one of the largest banks in Austria. As a dynamic employer, we promote talent and drive technological innovation forward at a rapid pace. Flat hierarchies, a flexible working environment, and equal opportunities for our employees are particularly important to us.

Connect business, technology and risk

We are looking for an experienced, pragmatic and motivated colleague to strengthen our IT Risk & Business Continuity Management team. You bring a solid understanding of risk management and regulated industries. A traditional technical IT background is not required, but you must be able and willing to understand regulatory, organizational and technology-related topics in depth. In this senior role, you will take ownership of complex risk and resilience topics, provide constructive challenge and help translate regulatory expectations into practical, sustainable solutions.

Your Responsibilites

  • Take ownership of IT risk, business continuity and operational resilience activities.
  • Assess complex IT, vendor, solution and process-related risks and provide clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Bridge the gap between the First and Second Lines of Defense by combining independent oversight with pragmatic and solution-oriented guidance.
  • Advise business, IT, Risk, Compliance and other control functions on regulatory requirements and risk-based decision-making.
  • Deep-dive into regulatory requirements, organizational processes and technology risks, connecting detailed findings with the wider risk context.
  • Lead discussions, workshops and negotiations with internal stakeholders, senior management, auditors and regulatory authorities.
  • Constructively challenge risk assessments, control designs, remediation plans and risk acceptance decisions.
  • Communicate complex risk topics clearly and ensure that responsibilities, decisions and required actions are understood.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize and automate IT risk and BCM processes.
  • Support and guide junior colleagues by sharing knowledge, providing direction and promoting a collaborative team environment.

Your Profile

  • Several years of relevant experience in IT risk, operational risk, business continuity, governance, compliance, audit or a comparable function in a regulated industry.
  • A strong understanding of risk management principles, regulatory expectations and the responsibilities of the First and Second Lines of Defense.
  • No IT degree is required, but you have a strong interest in technology and can assess its risks in an organizational and regulatory context.
  • The willingness and ability to deep-dive into regulatory, organizational and technical topics while maintaining a clear view of the broader business impact.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively across organizational and functional boundaries.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder management and negotiation skills, including the confidence to engage with senior management, auditors and regulatory authorities.
  • Sound judgment and the confidence to ask critical questions, constructively challenge assumptions and take a clear position on risk.
  • The ability to translate complex requirements and risk findings into practical recommendations and sustainable improvements.
  • Ideally, you can share examples of personal or professional projects that demonstrate your interest in automation and improving how work gets done. These may include scripts, automated workflows, dashboards, low-code solutions or AI-supported use cases.

We are looking for someone who combines sound risk judgment with curiosity, pragmatism and strong stakeholder skills. You should be motivated to connect people, challenge constructively and use technology to simplify processes and strengthen organizational resilience.

Our Offer

  • You will spend 50% of your working time in our modern and easily accessible office at Vienna Central Station.
  • We support your personal development and career planning with an individual and attractive training program. Visit our BAWAG Academy and use our GoodHabitz elearning platform for both your professional and personal growth.
  • In addition, we offer a range of interesting and valuable additional benefits.
