About the Role
We are seeking an experienced tax professional to join our international Group Tax function. This strategic role combines complex international tax advisory work with close business partnering across growth initiatives, M&A projects, and cross-border activities. The ideal candidate brings strong technical tax expertise and practical experience within banking or financial services. The role can be located in Germany or Austria.
Your Responsibilities
- Advise on strategic tax matters across multiple European jurisdictions
- Support business growth initiatives, acquisitions, integrations, and restructuring projects
- Provide technical leadership in:
- Corporate Income Tax (CIT)
- Trade Tax
- Transfer Pricing (including financial transactions and transfer pricing)
- VAT for financial services
- Cross-border taxation and double tax treaties
- Banking-specific withholding tax regimes in Europe
- Monitor and assess international tax developments affecting the Group
- Partner with business, finance, legal, HR, and regulatory teams on new initiatives and product launches
- Manage relationships with external advisors and tax authorities
- Support tax governance, risk management, and tax policy development
- Contribute to the continuous enhancement of tax processes, technology, and controls
Your Profile
- 8+ years of relevant tax experience
- A combination of Big 4 tax advisory and in-house experience within a bank, financial institution, asset manager, insurance company, or financial services group is highly desirable
- Experience working in an international environment with senior stakeholder exposure across multiple jurisdictions
- Proven track record supporting complex cross-border projects, transformations, acquisitions, or restructurings
- Strategic and entrepreneurial mindset
- Strong business partnering skills
- Ability to translate technical tax concepts into practical business solutions
- International outlook and cultural awareness
- Team player who enjoys collaborating across functions and countries
- Self-starter with strong ownership mentality
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced and evolving environment
- Passion for continuous learning, professional development, and process improvement
- Fluent German and English (written and spoken)
- Additional European languages are considered an advantage
Technical Expertise: strong practical experience in several of the following areas:
- Corporate Income Tax
- German Corporate Tax and Trade Tax
- Transfer Pricing, including financial transactions
- Double Tax Agreements
- VAT within the financial services sector
- Banking-specific withholding tax regimes
- Cross-border tax structuring and advisory
- Tax aspects of treasury activities, funding structures, and regulated financial services businesses
Knowledge of tax regimes in one or more of the following jurisdictions is highly desirable:
- Germany, Austria, Netherlands. Ireland, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Other EEA jurisdictions
Qualifications
- Qualified Tax Advisor, Steuerberater, Chartered Tax Adviser, or equivalent professional qualification
- Alternatively, extensive corporate tax expertise gained within an EEA member state or Switzerland
